14th Annual Zinfandel Tasting is next Weekend in San Francisco!
Wine Chief says, Last year the ZAP tasting at Fort Mason, San Francisco Ca. was full of promise! The 2002 Zinfandels are over the top, ripe wonderful, and can be examples of perfect balance between fruit and structure. Prices remain high, most are being released later this year! I could not possibly taste them all. Here are a few of my favorites! A few Zinfandels tasted here are also featured in WineChief's Sonoma Valley Wine Roads and WineChief's Napa Valley Wine Roads! Finally, WineChief says, check out this site winereleasedate.com! My Favorite 2001 Zinfandels! More Great Zinfandels !!!!! Green and Red Vineyards 2000 Napa Valley Chiles Mill Vineyard = 5Attababys! Seven Lions Winery 2000 John Marcucci Vineyard Zinfandel = 5Attababys! 100 year old head pruned, dry farmed vines that ooze out a miniscule 1/4 ton per acre! Black, dark mysterious nose of concentrated aromas that is uncanny! Thick black flavors ooze out a core of smoky black cherry buried deep inside a flavors of jammy prunes and sweet raisins! The balanced finish echoes prunes and raisins with that black cherry hiding inside a long thick tannic coating that covers your entire mouth. I have never tasted anything like this before. Not understood at first, but now I can't get it out of my mind! I stongly suggest decanting this wine! It is huge! Wow! The John Marcucci Vineyard (previously know as the Shriver Ranch Vineyard) is located on River Road just off of Hwy. 101. Planted 100 years ago by Frederic Joosten a cooper, from Baden Baden, Germany. Martinelli 1994, 1995, 1997, 1999 Jack Ass Hill Vineyard = 5Attababys! Jammy dark plummy aromas and flavors with leather, soil and spices on the finish. You don't notice the 18% alcohol until the bottle is gone! Helen Turley, winemaker! Jack Ass Hill Vineyard
